KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Zohari Openg will attend the Malaysia Day celebrations hosted by Sabah on September 16.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor said the celebrations, jointly organised by the State Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry and the Federal Communications Ministry will be held at the Padang Merdeka beginning at 7pm.
On a separate note, the Chief Minister announced that the State Cabinet has made the decision that Tuesday September 17 will not be a public holiday in place of September 16.
“This year’s Malaysia Day, a public holiday coincides with Maulidur Rasul (Prophet Muhammad’s birthday), also a public holiday on September 16. However, the State Cabinet has decided that there will be no public holiday replacement for the next day for the public sector,” he said.
For the private sector however, he said it is the discretion of employers whether to grant their employees a holiday on Tuesday September 17.
