KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor has called on more qualified Sabahans to pursue and accept high-level positions within the Federal civil service, including postings based in Putrajaya.
He said Sabahans should be more open to serving outside the state, including in Peninsular Malaysia, to ensure stronger and more balanced representation within the Federal administrative system.
“Qualified Sabahans must move beyond the perception of reluctance to serve outside their home state. Many Sabahans apply for Federal civil service positions offered by the Public Service Commission (SPA).
“When such opportunities are offered — including senior posts — they should be accepted even if the placement is in the Peninsula. This will enable more Sabahans to contribute meaningfully at the Federal level,” he said.
Hajiji made the remarks during a courtesy call by the Chairman of SPA Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Dr Ahmad Jailani Muhamed Yunus, at his office in Menara Kinabalu on Thursday.
The Chief Minister noted that greater participation of Sabahans in the Federal civil service would not only enhance career development opportunities but also strengthen institutional understanding of Sabah’s perspectives within national governance.
Meanwhile, Dr Ahmad Jailani said there has been an encouraging increase in the number of Sabahans applying to join the Federal civil service compared to previous years.
He added that, on average, about 2,000 Sabahans are appointed annually, with most currently serving within the state.
To further facilitate recruitment and interview processes, he announced that SPA Malaysia will establish a new interview centre in Sabah this year at the Keningau Urban Transformation Centre (UTC).
“At present, SPA interview centres in Sabah are located in Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Tawau,” he said.
Dr Ahmad Jailani also briefed the Chief Minister on SPA Malaysia’s ongoing outreach initiatives in Sabah, including participation in the MADANI Adoption Village (Kampung Angkat MADANI) programme, as well as continued cooperation between SPA Malaysia and the Sabah State Public Service Commission (SPA Sabah).
