KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor has called on the people of Sabah to continue giving their strong support and to work hand in hand with the State Government in realising its development agenda.

He said sustained public cooperation is essential to ensure continuity and long-term progress for both the state and its people.

“My aspiration as Chief Minister is to chart a clear and inclusive development pathway for Sabah. Continuous support from the people is crucial to ensure that development efforts can be implemented effectively and consistently,” he said.

His speech was delivered by Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Ceasar Mandela Malakun, at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Chinese New Year Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival held at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here today.

Hajiji also commended the United Sabah Chinese Communities Association Kota Kinabalu (USCCAKK) for organising the annual cultural festival in conjunction with the Chinese New Year 2026 celebration.

He noted that the event has become a much-anticipated annual tradition, not only among the Chinese community but also among Sabah’s multi-ethnic society, serving as an important platform to promote mutual respect, tolerance and unity.

“Cultural and festive celebrations across different religions, ethnicities and traditions form Sabah’s unique identity. These celebrations have become part of our way of life and continue to strengthen harmony among our diverse communities,” he said.

Referring to the Chinese zodiac, Hajiji said 2026, the Year of the Fire Horse, symbolises change, innovation and courage.

“The spirit of the Horse should inspire us to move forward together in driving economic growth, social development and improving the well-being of the people,” he said.

He added that the State Government remains committed to advancing its development agenda, revitalising the economy and pursuing new opportunities to ensure sustainable progress for Sabah and its people.
