TUARAN:Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor has called on Sabah’s younger Muslim generation to embrace the spirit of Hijrah as a guiding principle in life — continuously strengthening their knowledge, skills, character and identity to emerge as capable individuals who contribute meaningfully to the development of the state and the nation.
He said youths are among Sabah’s most valuable assets, and that their character, resilience and leadership will ultimately shape the state’s future. It is therefore essential, he added, that they equip themselves with knowledge and sound values while adapting confidently to an increasingly digital world.
Hajiji said advances in digital technology should be harnessed responsibly — to enhance education, cultivate new skills, encourage entrepreneurship, facilitate knowledge-sharing and ultimately improve quality of life.
At the same time, he cautioned young people to remain vigilant against the misuse of technology, including the spread of false information, cyberbullying and other social ills that could jeopardise their future.
“Youths must remain resilient, courageous in facing challenges, and committed to continuous self-improvement. With knowledge, strong moral values and the spirit of Hijrah, they can grow into capable, principled and responsible leaders,” he said.
His speech was delivered by Nominated State Assemblyman Datuk Abdul Kassim Haji Razali at the Tuaran District-Level Maal Hijrah 1448H/2026M Celebration at Dewan Sri Sulaman here today.
Hajiji said the annual Maal Hijrah celebration should be regarded as far more than a commemorative occasion — it is an opportunity to reflect deeply on the migration of Prophet Muhammad SAW and the enduring values it represents in building a united, progressive, disciplined and morally upright society.
The spirit of Hijrah, he said, should inspire continuous efforts to strengthen unity and drive meaningful transformation — through changes in attitude, thinking, behaviour and action.
He noted that the values exemplified by the Hijrah — careful planning, sacrifice, patience, courage and unwavering faith in Allah SWT — remain as relevant today as ever, and should be practised in everyday life.
Conversely, he said, negative traits such as laziness, indiscipline, selfishness, dishonesty and the tendency to give up easily must be firmly rejected if a resilient and progressive society is to be built.
At the ceremony, the Tuaran District Maal Hijrah Award was presented to Ustaz Haji Imbran Angun in recognition of his contributions to the local Muslim community.
