PENAMPANG:Former State Assemblyman Datuk James Ligunjang JP today led a group of prominent political figures and professionals from the Penampang parliamentary constituency in submitting their applications to join Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS).
The membership application forms were presented to PGRS Moyog Division Chief Datuk Ceasar Mandela Malakun at a brief ceremony held at the International Technology and Commercial Centre (ITCC), Penampang. The occasion was witnessed by PGRS Kapayan Division Chief Datuk Steven Jimbangan.
Among those joining the party were lawyer and former USNO Deputy Chairman Datuk Edmund Doudilim; architect Dr Tan Jun Kwang; lawyer Wilson Chang; former Tawau Deputy Officer-in-Charge of Police District (OCPD) and Sabah Veteran Police Association Chairman Datuk Aloysius Mobijin; retired senior civil servant Frederick Francis Fung; lawyer Anwar Syed Shariff Abdullah; engineer Tan Sri Gary Chang; and former PKR branch chief Albert Doudilim.
Speaking after the ceremony, James said the decision to join PGRS formalised what had long been his personal commitment to the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) administration.
He explained that while he had consistently supported GRS since the coalition was formed, he had never previously held membership in any of its component parties.
“We are joining PGRS because we want to play a more active role in strengthening the party at the grassroots level, while contributing to the continued strength of the GRS coalition,” he said.
James also expressed strong confidence in the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor, describing the State Government’s development agenda as both progressive and people-oriented.
He said the administration had delivered numerous development initiatives benefiting urban and rural communities alike — a record he said reflects a genuine commitment to improving the wellbeing of Sabahans.
“The current leadership has delivered tangible results for the people. That is why we believe this administration deserves continued support, and why we have chosen PGRS as our political platform,” he added.
The entry of James and his group is expected to further bolster PGRS’s standing in the Penampang parliamentary constituency, as the party continues to widen its grassroots base.
