KOTA KINABALU:Former Petagas assemblyman Datuk James Ligunjang has urged Sabahans to unite behind the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition in the upcoming state election, emphasising that continued unity under Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor is essential to safeguard Sabah’s stability and sustain its economic progress.
Ligunjang said Sabah’s transformation over the past five years under Hajiji’s leadership has been characterised by prudent financial management, strong governance, and inclusive growth that benefits people from all backgrounds.
“Sabah is more than just a place — it is our home and our future. Under Hajiji’s leadership, the state’s financial revenue has reached unprecedented levels, creating new opportunities, hope, and progress for the people,” he said in a statement today.

“Stability is the foundation upon which our families, children, and communities thrive.”
He noted that GRS’s commitment to unity and shared purpose mirrors the success of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in Sarawak, and has played a pivotal role in strengthening political stability in Sabah.
Ligunjang also urged voters to view GRS’s cooperation with the Pakatan Harapan (PH)-led federal government as a strategic partnership to advance Sabah’s interests — not a compromise of the state’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“This collaboration ensures that Sabah’s rights are respected and implemented through dialogue, understanding, and mutual respect,” he said.
Ligunjang highlighted the achievements of Hajiji’s administration, including record revenue growth, increased investment inflows, expanded social assistance programmes, and major infrastructure improvements across the state.
“Hajiji is more than a leader — he is a protector and a unifying force. His calm and steady leadership has transformed aspirations into tangible results: better healthcare, stronger education, and greater opportunities for Sabahans,” he said.
He also praised GRS’s efforts in maintaining racial and religious harmony, describing unity as “the heart of Sabah’s identity.”
“Over the past five years, GRS has reinforced unity among Sabah’s diverse communities, celebrating our shared heritage and faiths in the true spirit of Sabah Tanah Airku,” he said.
Ligunjang concluded by calling on voters to make their votes count in the coming election.
“Your vote is more than a political choice — it is an act of love for our land, our families, and our children’s future. Let us keep Sabah shining today and for generations to come.”
