PITAS: More than 2,000 students from seven schools in Pitas will now receive direct support for their daily schooling needs under a new education-focused Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative launched by SMJ Energy Sdn Bhd in collaboration with the MyKasih Foundation.

The initiative was launched by Sabah’s Minister of Finance and Chairman of SMJ Energy, Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun, during a ceremony at SMK Kanibungan, here, today.

“This programme reflects SMJ Energy’s commitment to ensuring that the benefits of Sabah’s oil and gas industry flow back to its people, especially our children who represent the future of this state,” said Masidi in his speech.

“If this initiative can help change the direction of even one student’s life, then it is a meaningful investment.”

The programme supports students from three secondary and four primary schools in Pitas with cashless assistance for meals and school supplies via school canteens and cooperatives. The use of digital payment systems ensures transparency and allows aid to go directly to the students.

Masidi acknowledged that Pitas is among the most socioeconomically challenged districts in Sabah and stressed the importance of equal opportunity for students regardless of where they are born.

The MyKasih Foundation is managing the implementation and impact reporting of the programme, ensuring accountability and consistent support for beneficiaries.

“This initiative complements the longstanding efforts of schools, education officers, and local organisations in Pitas. We recognise that improving rural education is a shared responsibility,” Masidi added.
